As a boxer you know when it’s not your day when you lose badly. Similarly, you also know whether you have done enough to win a bout.

I think my height, reach and speed are my key strengths. There is always room for improvement and I need to work more on my footwork.

At the moment, I’m happy playing amateur boxing and would like to win medals in all major events. As for turning pro, I’m not thinking about it now.

My uncle was scared to see me all groggy and pale after the surgery in Mumbai. It was the third surgery for the same injury and on the same thumb. The first one had failed, the second didn't help either and here I was, for a third within a year

Injuries were ruining me at that stage, there was no other factor, just injuries

I have no complaints and neither do I feel unlucky. In fact, to be able to compete and win after so many challenges, I consider that a blessing

JSW Sports has played a major role in my performances and have gone a long way for not just me but many other athletes. I’m blessed to be a part of their program and I hope to do them proud in the future.

When I asked my father why there were no girls boxing with him, he had told me that very few girls had the guts to take up boxing. I wanted to prove to everyone that women can also be boxers and that’s how I started boxing.

When I used to go for training, there were girls in almost very sport except boxing.

From a very early age, I wanted to be different. Also, being a Muslim girl, I did not get support from anyone in my district. There were people who always criticized me but my family always supported me.

I sparred with some foreign boxers during the World youth women’s championship at Guwahati in November. I overcame doubts about my shoulder after seeing a sports psychologist

My target is to win the gold medal here ahead of the Commonwealth and Asian Games and the World Championship (in Delhi) and establish myself in 51kg before the preparations for the 2020 Olympics.

Feels great to make the switch to the elite level. I hope to win the title

Shashi Chopra (Boxer)

I am very happy with my first round victory. I was confident I could win the bout if i stuck to the plan and not allow my opponent to score points. I also kept my punches straight and struck effectively
