To tell her that I joined the parachute club was too hard for me. I didn't want to trouble her; besides, I was not completely sure about the success of my new adventure.

One cannot deny the great role women have played in the world community. My flight was yet another impetus to continue this female contribution.

The missing toothbrush was nothing compared with the fact that the spacecraft was orientated to ascend, not descend. I would have gone up and up instead of going back down to the ground.

You don't think about the danger. The spaceship becomes your home.

This a great question because most of us consider it like flying when we first think about it. And yes, I too thought of it as “flying around” initially.

Well, there is no gravity up here to speak of, so nothing pulls us down to the “floor” like it does on Earth. Gravity, the force that holds things onto the planet gets weaker and weaker as we go further and further away from the center of the Earth.

Planets look about the same here as they do to you on the Earth because we really aren’t that much closer. Our home, the International Space Station orbits around the Earth at about 200 miles.

I love samosas and I had asked for some special things, this being one of them. My family was able to work with NASA to get clear packaging and they put samosas in there and it was a nice surprise.

I’m not surprised. It’s an amazing piece of machinery. It’s a beautiful star, gold, silver, and white with shining antennas and big solar rays. It looks like something brand new.

There is a distinct layer between the Earth and the universe; which is extremely black. Slowly, the entire universe starts to look 3D, like you can fly through it rather than this sphere of blackness overhead.

When the engines start up, you think, “Holy moly, we’re really going.” Just eight minutes later, you’re in space.

Travel is always surprising. You can never read enough about a destination in a book to understand or to see what it’s like until you get there. So, I tend to reserve my judgment about places because every time I’ve gone to different places I’ve been surprised. And I love that.

It's been a little while for me -- it's been, like you said, six years since I went up on the space station last time. I actually can't wait to go.
