Overseas, the ability to understand is deeper but the nuances of hasta-mudras is not. A different style of introduction is necessary although theatre manners and respect is far better overseas than in India.

First, I tried to cast professional kids. But their performance was not convincing. So I decided to pick real slum boys. They have good energy but the problem with them is that they are camera shy. So I gave them training and did lot of rehearsals before shoot.

In order to make it realistic, we shot in real slum and in lots of roads and streets in Chennai. The shooting period was 61 days.

It’s true that I’ve acquired the remake rights of a Hollywood film. It’s too early to divulge details but it’s a very interesting project and I plan to work on it next year
