The world is in the first innings of the big digital build-out that is happening and services firms have a big role to play in that.

Our strategy has always been to serve a small number of clients and serve them deeply. The relationships we have tend to be long-term businesses.

Over the past, say, 12 months or so, we have seen digital go from clients piloting and trying things to moving to digital at scale.

I think whenever you have a big technology change, there are always voices about the disruption it may cause... forget about technology, innovation in general causes disruption and that is the role of innovation in a sense or a byproduct of innovation, and clearly, there are discussions around disruptions and dislocations at all levels of new technology.

I cannot comment on differences because I am not privy to what other companies did but what I can tell you is that we have, over the years, built business continuity plans, which we rehearse and we continue to evolve.

It’s actually 11 years. I love the sort of innovation and change. Doing things which are different. This industry has given me that and more over 11 years. So, I wake up in the morning and very little is the same, say a year before or two years before or three years before. So every day is a new day.

The trends are very clear – it’s no longer labour arbitrage but intellectual arbitrage. Just like the manufacturing supply chain went global, we are seeing the services value chain also go global. This means companies need to tap into the most appropriate, qualified and experienced talent wherever they are available, near or far.

I was very fortunate in my upbringing. My father was a diplomat, and so, until I was 18, we traveled to a new country every three years. After finishing high school in the Caribbean, I wound up in Hong Kong when I was 18. We realized that there were few universities that taught in English, and so I went to one in Macau that focused on working professionals. I went to school at night and on weekends.

I was somewhat indifferent to it because I expected it, and I knew nothing else. In hindsight, I wouldn’t do it any other way. It really did shape who I am today.

I get most excited by technologies that have the potential to have significant impact on our clients’ businesses.
